The origins of Merck go back to Saint-Liévin, patron saint of the fishermen of the Boulonnais region, who invoked his protection before setting out to sea. Mass is still celebrated in his honour today. Saint-Omer church dates back to the 15th century and was remodelled between 1571 and 1687. Beware: a steep and slippery hill 200 metres from the start. To get there, turn right opposite the church, then, after number 24 rue de l'église, turn right into the rue de l'Omer.
