Chapelle Notre-Dame-des-Ardents

Rue du Lusquet, SENINGHEM

This magnificent chapel dates back to 1604. It is one of the oldest in the department. It is 13m high, 8m wide and 5.5m wide.

Made entirely of stone, it has a nave, a choir and a bell tower. It was used as a prison during the French Revolution.

A beautiful graffiti depicting the instruments of Christ's Passion, dated 1688, can be seen on a buttress on the south side. It contains a piece of the Holy Candle from Arras, known as the Notre Dame des Ardents candle (12th century), brought back in the 15th century by the lord of the manor (the Duke of Croy), who had the first chapel built. The current building is very common. People come here to get the healing water. A novena is held every year in September.
