Coeur historique de Tournehem

Running parallel to the River Hem, the old centre of Tournehem is unique in that it is a castral town directly inherited from the Middle Ages. Once fortified, the town was grouped around a square and a castle known since the 13th century. In the 15th century, Tournehem castle became the residence of the Dukes of Burgundy. Today, the medieval gateway remains, and visitors pass beneath it to enter the village, where they will discover a remarkable collection of chalk buildings (houses, church, mill).

Take advantage of your visit to discover the treasures of the church of Saint-Médard (open daily from 10am to 6.30pm) (in the Gothic tradition of the 17th and 18th centuries), including its organ and 8 panels depicting the Passion of Christ, which are listed Historic Monuments.

Guided tours are occasionally organised by the Pays d'art et d'histoire (see the AUD / PAH programme, available from the Pays de Saint-Omer tourist office).
