The Jesuit Chapel
With its imposing volume and distinctive colours, the Jesuit chapel dominates the urban landscape. Its grandiose architecture bears witness to the importance of the Walloon Jesuit College, founded in 1566, and more broadly to the city's central role in education from the Renaissance to the Revolution. Built between 1615 and 1640, then restored between 2013 and 2016, this architectural gem is now used as a venue for exhibitions, concerts and seminars. Access to the site is limited to exhibition periods. Guided tours are also organised from time to time by guides from the Pays d'art et d'histoire. For more information, contact the Pays de Saint-Omer Tourist Office.

Notre-Dame de Saint-Omer Cathedral
Located in the heart of its former enclosure, Notre-Dame cathedral was included in the first list of Historic Monuments in 1840. It is renowned for being one of the richest cathedrals in France in terms of its furnishings. Its astrolabe clock (1558) and organ case (18th century) are two treasures. They are accompanied by masterpieces by Lebrun and Rubens. Other details offer surprise and wonder: marble and alabaster chapels, Baroque and classical paintings, funerary monuments, cabinetwork, paving slabs, etc. Self-guided tours or guided tours with a Pays d'art et d'histoire guide: contact the Pays de Saint-Omer Tourist Office. Please note: Visits to the building are not permitted during religious events and services.
